Following her success in winning a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant, Angela Sara Cacciapuoti has been appointed Full Professor through the Italian “direct call” procedure – a special appointment without a public competition, reserved for faculties of exceptional merit – effective November 1st.
The ERC Consolidator Grant is awarded by the European Research Council to scholars who have already demonstrated significant results and propose projects with high innovative potential. An internationally renowned expert in the field of telecommunications, Professor Cacciapuoti has made pioneering contributions to the design of quantum networks. An active member of the international scientific community, she is the author of numerous reference works in the sector. Her profile was recently featured on the homepage of IEEEXplore, the platform of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, one of the world’s leading institutions for engineering and technological research.
The winning project, “QNattyNet” (Quantum-Native Communication Networks: from Quantum Message to Quantum Functioning), aims at laying the groundwork for the next revolution in communication networks. The objective is ambitious: to create natively quantum communication networks, designed from the outset to leverage principles such as quantum entanglement and quantum teleportation. This approach promises to guarantee absolutely secure communications, interconnect quantum computers, and develop sensors of extreme precision.
